Our Story
Craftsmanship in Handmade Products

About Us
When the British came to India, they came to us for cotton.
Indian cotton once clothed the world. That truth made us stop and think—
If people across the world once desired what we created, why shouldn’t we bring that legacy back today?
That thought is where Paruthee Handlooms was born.
My name is Surenderan. I came to Chennai from Rajapalayam, carrying not just a dream, but a deep belief in cotton, handloom, and the people behind it. I started Paruthee Handlooms three years ago, but my connection with textiles goes back eight years—years of observing, learning, failing, and understanding the industry from the inside.
Our generation knows very little about cotton today. Even fewer understand the damage caused by synthetic fabrics—to our skin, to the environment, and to livelihoods.
Think about this: if someone tried to sell you a plastic carry bag for ₹500, would anyone believe its value?
Yet from just two plastic covers, a shirt can be manufactured.
That is the reality of fast fashion.
And that is exactly what we decided to completely avoid.
We chose handloom—not because it is easy, but because it is honest.
In Tamil Nadu, there are hardly two lakh weavers left today. Many have moved away from weaving, some shifted to silk, and many travelled to Bengal where craftsmanship still receives respect and continuity. Slowly, the knowledge passed down through generations is disappearing.
We refused to let that happen quietly.
